In Central Oregon, I would argue that all four seasons have something special to them in terms of taking family photos. Early spring has the benefit of warmer days and more sunshine than winter, but it’s easier to get that sunset golden hour with young children. Summer family photos are a great choice for many families - especially those that love to adventure in Central Oregon’s natural spaces.
And not to leave out winter - what kids wouldn’t enjoy playing in the snow with their parents and having photos to remember it by? Nestled within view of Smith Rock State Park, the pumpkin patch at Smith Rock Ranch in Terrebonne is active, energetic, and perfect for families (and adults who feel young at heart).
My family visited the Smith Rock Ranch pumpkin patch on our scouting trip before deciding to move to Bend. My son was four years old and I was pregnant with our second child when we went. We had a blast feeding goats, riding the zoo train, and picking out some rather large pumpkins to be carved.

Well Rooted Produce & U-Pick is at the northern end of Bend on Swalley Road. With open, sweeping views of the Central Oregon landscape and a commitment to growing produce without herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers, Well Rooted Produce is a community gem.
In addition to a pumpkin patch, Well Rooted Produce also has a fall sunflower maze and a farmstand that sells locally sourced goodies from businesses within Central Oregon.
Personally, I think the fields of Well Rooted Produce are the most beautiful option in this list for a working farm near Bend, Oregon.
Also located in Terrebonne, DD Ranch is built around activities that work really well for families with preschool age children. We visited in 2025 with friends, and both my son and his friend thoroughly enjoyed jumping on the pumpkin-shaped bouncy platform, petting goats, riding a little train, climbing a play structure, and picking out some special gourds and pumpkins to decorate our porches.
